Lodging and Logistics

Getting to Auburn

Auburn is about three hours from either Metro Detroit or Chicago.  But if you are flying, the airport in Fort Wayne Indiana is just 30 minutes away.  Best of all, the airport is very small and is a delight to fly through.  That said, as of early July flights are very limited and expensive to Fort Wayne.  Other options are flying into Indianapolis, Detroit, or Chicago.  Indy is a bit over two hours away.  Detroit’s airport is just under 2 1/2 hours away but is a rather comfortable drive traffic wise as the airport’s southwest of the city and you avoid most area traffic.

If you are a railroad fan, consider taking Amtrak which stops just seven miles from Auburn in Waterloo Indiana.   Classic Bicycles Auburn will be delighted to help with logistics as much as possible if you need a ride from or to the train station.

Room Blocks and Bicycle Logistics

Newsflash July 21st – The Comfort Suites is now sold out of rooms for the event – please make your reservations at the Sure Stay Plus.  As of July 21st, they still have a number of rooms available.

Auburn has many hotels and motels.  Generally, hotels on the east side of I-69 are easier to access.  If you will be riding from your hotel to the museum, it is a bad idea to stay on the west side of I-69 as the only access road is extremely busy.  If the hotels convenient to the museum fill, there are many hotels in the region.  But you will be much farther from the venue.  We strongly suggest making your room reservations as soon as possible.

There is currently one room blocks for Classic Bicycles Auburn.  It is the Sure Stay Plus.  The Comfort Suites is now sold-out.  Another hotel, the Baymont is shown on the map below but it isn’t so bike friendly and we don’t have a block there.

The Sure Stay Plus (and the sold-out Comfort Suites)  have meeting rooms set aside where bicycles can be assembled (users must take precautions not to damage the room and floors).  They are also amenable to receiving your bicycle(s) if you are shipping them to Auburn but you MUST call and alert them to this first and confirm that it’s OK..  The meeting rooms can also be used to stage bicycles for UPS or Fedex pickup after the show but you must reach out Classic Bicycles Auburn staff or the hotel to let them know in advance.  If you take advantage of this opportunity, you are doing so at your own risk and neither the hotel or Classic Bicycles Auburn can take responsibility for theft or other loss as a result.  Similarly,  guests of these hotels are individually responsible for any damages to the hotel and for abiding by all hotel policies.

Closer to the highway and some big-box stores.  This hotel has nice reviews and they seem very friendly.  A meeting room is available on the second floor and can be used as a bicycle assembly area.  Note that some rooms are also on the second floor (no elevator). King room $89.99, 2 Double bed room $ 94.99, and 2 Queen room $99.99.   They seem receptive to receiving bicycles in advance for guests.  Also, if you are staying on for the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Festival, for a limited number of rooms they will extend your stay at the very reasonable group rate.  If you have questions for the hotel, the staff is friendly and the manager, Sue, is especially helpful!

Rather close to the venue and they seem very helpful and friendly.  Nice reviews.  A meeting room is available and can be used as a bicycle assembly area.  All rooms are $99.00 and include Kings and double Queens.  Be sure to use the above number for your reservation as the hotel is familiar with the room block rates.  Also, if you are staying on for the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Festival you can extend your stay at the very reasonable group rate which is a huge savings.

Baymont by Wyndham Auburn    (260) 333-5509 – no group block but close by

No group block here, but quite close to the venue although not as bike friendly.  But if/when the other hotels fill up, this will be a nice option.
